The short version

BoatDeck stores what you put into it about your boat, so that it is there on your other devices and still there if you lose your phone. It does not sell anything to anybody, and it carries no advertising or third-party tracking.

What is stored

• Your account: an email address, or the identifier supplied by Sign in with Apple or Google if you use those. If you use Apple's private relay we never see your real address.
• Your boat: name, builder, dimensions, flag, engines, and the maintenance and deadline records you create.
• Your trips: start and end time, distance, and the track points needed to compute them, plus the position you set as your berth.
• Your settings: language and units.
• A notification token, if you turn reminders on: an identifier your phone gives us so a reminder can reach it. It is tied to the device, not to you, and it goes away when you turn reminders off or uninstall the app.

Reminders

If you turn them on, we send a reminder when something on your boat is coming due. The message carries the name of the task and nothing else, and it is sent through Firebase Cloud Messaging, then Apple or Google, to reach your phone. You can turn them off in the phone's settings at any time.

Location

BoatDeck reads your position only while you are recording a trip, and once when you set your berth. Positions stay in your own boat's records. They are not shared with anyone, not sold, and not used to build any profile of you. You can revoke the permission in the phone's settings at any time; the rest of the app keeps working.

Where it lives

On Google Firebase, in the European Union — Firestore in the eur3 multi-region and files in europe-west3. Transmission is encrypted, and access rules mean only you and the people you have added to your boat can read its records.

Who else sees it

Google acts as our data processor for the hosting above, and Apple or Google handle sign-in if you choose those. Nobody else. There are no analytics SDKs, no advertising networks and no data brokers.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data or have it deleted, and deleting your account deletes the boats you own along with it. Write to info@digitalforest.it and we will do it — under the GDPR we have a month, and in practice it takes days.
